Math Games For Kids
There are many different kinds of math games for kids, since there are many different kinds of math that kids learn to do. Some of them are designed to teach basic arithmetic facts and stuff like that, while others are designed to teach logical thinking and other higher order skills .there are math games online for kids and games that you can play with paper and pencil. There are even a few math board games out there, and they are making more all the time.
Usually, I like to incorporate math games for kids that you can play face-to-face into my curriculum. Map online games are good for supplementary learning, but nothing beats working with the student closely to teach math concepts. One of my favorite math games for kids is basically a large version of tic-tac-toe. Instead of simply putting in An x or an o, however, you have to solve a math problem before you can enter your answer. Usually, I use this to teach multiplication tables, But it can be used for other math facts as well.
Of course, some of the good math games for kids goes beyond simple mathematical processes to involve more logical thinking principles. For example, math logic puzzles can be really great games for kids to work on. They can work in groups on these, competing against each other to solve the puzzle in the least steps or the most quickly. They rely on multiplication, division, addition, and subtraction, but they also rely on the ability to take a complicated problem and find out what process go in to it. This sort of math game for kids is great because it shows children what math is all about. A lot of kids start to dislike math because they think it is just about plugging in numbers and solving multiplication problems or adding sums. By showing them that math can be interesting, you can encourage them to take a more active approach to learning.
One of the best math games for kids that I know of is to have the kids quiz each other on the math lessons. You allow them to ask questions on pretty much any topic you have covered either in the last week, the last year, or the last semester. They invent their own math problems and come up with a solution, then try to give it to the other team. The goal is to try to stump the other team while only using material from the class that year. Some of the kids come up with some pretty ingenious question when doing this game, and I'm always amazed when they finally managed to ask a question the other group can't answer.
