Waterproof Mattress Protectors
When I was a kid, my mom got us all waterproof bedding. Although I was not a bed wetter, my parents were pretty thrifty people and did not want to take any chances with the new mattresses they had bought for us. They figure that waterproof mattress protectors were the best way to ensure that the beds did not get damaged, and so they made sure that every child had them.
To tell you the truth, I didn't really like the waterproof mattress protector when I was young. It was kind of uncomfortable. It felt sort of like sleeping on top of a plastic bag. I only used it because my parents insisted on it. Although it was useful a couple times when I spilled a cup of water in my bed, in general it didn't make much of a difference.
I did not think about waterproof mattress protectors again for several years. I had no need to. Then last year, my child started to wet the bed. I went out to buy him a waterproof mattress protector and was surprised by what I found. They are a lot better. As a matter of fact, they feel just like normal mattress protectors. The only difference is that they have padding on the underside that stops water from leaking through.
I was so impressed by what I had found with the waterproof mattress protectors that I decided to get one for my bed as well. You see, I like to eat and drink in bed, and occasionally I do have spills. I figure that a waterproof mattress protector was a great way to prevent those occasional spills from seeping into the mattress and causing damage.
The great thing about waterproof mattress protectors nowadays is that they are well enough disguised not to have a stigma associated with them. I remember when I was a kid and my friends found my waterproof mattress protector. He immediately thought that I was a bed wetter even though I told him I wasn't. He made fun of me and managed to really embarrass me. My child's waterproof mattress protectors, however, look just like any other mattress pads. They won't expose him to unnecessary ridicule at the hands of his peers, and for that I am happy. After all, no parent wants to embarrass his or her child. I know the bed wetting problems pass, and in the meantime he has something to stop it from soaking his mattress.
