You may find a few people that have no need to have laundry baskets in their homes, but I dont think I know of any. Most use them to do the wash, of course, but most find that these are great to do a large number of different tasks. Some are very simple, and some have some very unique features, but they all work in the same basic way. They are really nothing more than a box or container with holes in the side for ventilation, and handles that make carrying them a lot less painful on the hands.
When choosing laundry baskets for the purposes of laundry only, you can get whatever you want. Some go with the round type, but those are the best for smaller loads and space saving. If you have a smaller washer and dryer set, like those that are made stacked to go into apartments, you may only need the smaller size of laundry baskets. Others are rectangle in shape and can generally hold one regular size load of laundry with ease. These are probably the most common, but some have both. Each types stacks for easy storage.
There are different types of materials from which these laundry baskets are made as well. If you want them for laundry only, that means you can get any type without too many issues. If you may use them for other things, think about how strong they are when you buy. The plastic type of laundry baskets are the cheapest, and seem to work well. Some even come with a curve in the side so they sit on your hip with more comfort. You can also get them made with wicker and other materials if you want something that is a bit stronger and will last longer.
The other uses for laundry baskets include storage and transportation. These can be used in toy rooms when you do not have enough room in your toy boxes. You can use them to store blankets, as they work well for that. You can also use them when you need to have a special soft bed for your pet. They have all of the uses you can normally use storage boxes for, though you dont want to put small things within the baskets if there are holes in the sides. This can lead to nothing but frustrations. Having a few spare laundry baskets at home can be a great idea for all of these reasons.
