Map Of San Francisco

When I looked at the Map Of San Francisco, it seemed pretty clear and straightforward. I have lived in some pretty confusing cities in my life, so I knew how to find my way around. What I did not really think about was the elevation changes. On maps of San Francisco it looks at flat as any city, but in reality you have to think three dimensionally to get around. I guess that this is especially hard for me, coming from the Midwest. In Michigan, everything is pretty flat. Any uphill or downhill walking you have to do is minimal. Not so in the San Francisco Bay area.

For most of my first day in the city, the map of San Francisco worked pretty well for me. I used it to get a bus down to Golden gate Park, to walk around and explore the mission, and do things like that. It was while I was wondering around, however, that I got into trouble. I ended up way up in the Russian Hill area, far away from where I wanted to be. The map of San Francisco still told me the direction, but everything was so steep and there was so much up-and-down that I couldn't quite figure out the best way to get home. My legs were killing me after a whole day of walking down and up those tall San Francisco hills, and I just wanted an easy way back.

Fortunately, although a map of San Francisco will only get so far, San Francisco people will take you the rest of the way. The first person I met gave me outstanding directions, telling me the best way to get home. Apparently, if I planned it out right, I could walk home so that I was going downhill the whole way. This was great because a lot of the hills seemed to go up and down so I was afraid that, even though I was going somewhere at a lower elevation, I would still have to do quite a bit of uphill climb. Needless to say, I was quite happy that this was not the case.

If you go to the city, make sure to get a good map of San Francisco, but also make sure to get a good tour guide. Making a friend is indispensable. Not only will he or she help you to find the coolest destinations and the most interesting sites, but also the easiest ways to get there.
