Have you ever walked into a room and felt instantly

Have you ever walked into a room and felt instantly at home? This is the kind of place where you want to sit and relax. Have you ever walked into a room where you have felt anxious and the need to leave to get space around you? This is the type of space that raises anxiety levels and increases the fight or flight instinct. The interesting thing is that these two rooms can be the same size with the same type of lighting. The difference is the color of the walls. Psychologists and psychiatrists have used different colors for years to effect the emotions of the patients.

When I worked in residential treatment for emotionally disturbed adolescents we had time out rooms that were used when needed to provide for the safety of a resident or those around them. One of the rooms was painted a bright pink. This was called Baker Miller pink after the psychologists that came up with the color. They came up with the interior painting ideas when they noticed that different colors had a profound effect on how people felt and behaved. The pink was suppose to have a calming effect and was to de-escalate a client very quickly. The other time out room was painted a soft yellow. This was supposed to help the depressed or suicidal client feel less depressed. Greens are also supposed to have a calming effect.

When my husband and I moved into our home and decided to give everything a fresh coat of paint I started thinking about interior painting ideas that would utilize the emotional effects of colors. When we went to the home improvement store to buy paint I started looking at the color choices, which seemed to be endless. There were also different techniques with brushes and sponges to use. There were many different interior painting ideas. I had decided that I wanted to create a relaxing living room, a sunny kitchen and a relaxing bedroom area. I told my husband that I thought we would be able to accomplish this very easily by using the interior painting ideas. Our living room is long and narrow. There is a brick wall with a fireplace on one end and large picture windows on the opposite end with a view of the lake. I wanted the small amount of wall that showed on that end to blend into the scenery, so we painted it a deep green. The side walls are a pale green. Our kitchen is a sunny yellow and our bedroom is a soft pale green. The results are wonderful. We have had many people that have come to visit comment on how peaceful it is to sit in our living room. The colors we choose to surround ourselves with really do make a difference in how we feel. This should be taken into consideration when deciding on different interior painting ideas.
