All About Plastic Bowls

When you think of some of the things in your home, plastic bowls seem to be no-brainer. You have them, you use them, but you dont think much about them. However, what you may not know is that you should be a little choosy when you go out and buy them, and there are times when you must throw them out. They are inexpensive for the most part, so throwing them out should not hurt too much. Some of these issues are safety related, and others are simply because you want your dishes to look good.

I never had a lot of plastic bowls in my house until I met my husband. If anyone can go through a stack of bowls in one day, it is him. I found that washing the ceramic ones time and time again became tiresome, and I would break them quite often. I decided to go out and get plastic bowls for his numerous bowls of cereal and all of the snaking that he did late at night. Washing bowls of plastic was much faster, and I never had to worry when I dropped one. Now that I have a daughter under the age of ten, I have even more of them in my house.

What you have to consider when you buy plastic bowls is how well they are made. Some can go into the dishwasher with ease, but others will melt within a few seconds. If you use the microwave a lot, or have children that may not think about melting, you should make sure you get ones that are microwave safe. You should also think about if you use a dishwasher or not. Some work well with the hot water that cleans the dishes, but some plastic bowls will also melt under these extreme conditions.

You have to learn when to throw out your plastic bowls as well. When it becomes apparent that the plastic has separated and is peeling away inside the bowl, it is time for them to go. You may wash your dishes well, but things can get stuck in there when the peeling is occurring, and that means the plastic blows are less than safe for your family. You should also throw out any that have warped due to use in the microwave or the dishwasher, even when they are supposed to be safe for those appliances. You dont have to worry too much when you get tomato stains in them, but they can go if you simply dont like the look of the stain.
